Join us on an educational journey as we transition our cacao farm from conventional farming methods to natural farming.
In July 2018 our farm manager, Amanda Hurtado, began a serious mission to find a natural solution to minimize the damage of the Chinese Rose Beetle. The Chinese Rose beetle was infesting our cacao orchard. One farmer recently shared with us that he also had a major infestation of beetles living near a golf course- as we do. We are not sure exactly why we had a major infestation and look forward to talking with other Big Island Hawaii cacao farmers about their experience with the Chinese Rose Beetle.
We made a choice to stop conventional farming methods, which used a chemical soak to kill the beetle. In April 2019 we found that just stopping chemical soak was not at all solution enough- we needed to start applying natural farming methods. This video shares the heart of the founder and why he has chosen to stay the course of natural farming- no matter what.
